What’s the most creative way you earned money as a kid?

I was a child model!

I was lucky enough to be able to be a child model and earn some money for college that way. I got to play dress up and pretend, take a few pictures, and make a nice-sized check. I thought it was fun. My mother never pushed me. It was definitely better than when I was 6 years old and tried to charge the neighborhood kids to watch my dog lick the inside of my mouth!

How does your family celebrate you on Mother’s Day?

We keep it chill!

For Mother’s Day, we keep it chill. My husband and I live a very hectic, crazy lifestyle. He’s working on a movie set. I’m running around being a mom, being an actress, being an author — just trying to do it all. So when we celebrate, we like to just keep it chill. We maybe go out to dinner to my favorite restaurant. I’ll have our son right next to us. We’ll have a great meal, maybe some wine and just really enjoy each other’s company. If it was up to me to plan a perfect Mother’s Day celebration — I would want to hit the spa. When you are running around chasing after your child every day and  not getting enough sleep, you just want to wind down. I’d love to get a massage, maybe get a a manicure and pedicure, and just relax.

How do you make working at home work?

It’s not always easy!

Funny you should ask, because I’m writing this on a freshly vacuumed netbook that my 10-year-old accidentally spilled an entire jar of powdered peanut butter on just a moment ago. So… if that’s something that would work for you, then working at home is working great! Seriously though, it’s not always easy. However, I realized a long time ago that I’m just not a 9-to-5, cubicle kind of a gal. I also had to accept that for me, it was best to give up the notion of a regular “work schedule” at home and just take it on a day-by-day basis. Otherwise I’d be tearing my hair out every time I had to postpone a meeting or duck out onto my front porch to make a phone call. But hey, it works for me!

How do you make big decisions?

I pray, pray, pray…

When it comes to big decisions, I am such an over-thinker! I do so much research and talk to so many people, and then, of course, I pray, pray, pray. And you would think with all the time and energy invested into my decision making process that once the decision was made, I’d feel completely confident. And yet, it just never works out that way! I have issues… clearly.

I will never forget…

I’m from Queens and the block I grew up on was filled with children — filled! I think there was about 20 of us in all. Our moms were all friends — it was a great set up. Each night (weather permitting), we would all gather in front of someone’s house and just hang out on the stoop. Nothing too special but it was so much fun. The kids would run around and play with chalk or fix a game of tag while the moms would bring out a pitcher of something frozen and spiked. Lots of laughs. Lots of smiles. Great community fun. I will never forget those moments. In Long Island, where I live now, this doesn’t exist. It’s a different time I suppose. I wish my kids could have a taste of what I had growing up. Maybe this summer I will whip out my pitcher!
