My kids want to go out

We hang out and pass candy out because I have to see some cute kids besides my own. Then, my kids want to go out. We take our kids around the neighborhood a little bit, then we go to my mom’s and trick-or-treat in her neighborhood.

Some sort of a ninja

My oldest is six. He’s going to be some sort of a ninja. I always wanted to be a mother of ninjas, so it works out perfectly. My youngest, who just turned three, will be forced to wear one of his brother’s old costumes, because we just have it.

Laura Ingalls is such an iconic character. Why do you think the books and your portrayal of the character on ‘Little House’ still resonate with kids today?

It teaches what we strive for

I think “Little House on the Prairie” still has meaning for kids because it teaches children the most important things we all strive for — community, family, love and home. And the other thing is that it shows them an authentic, specific time in American history and how kids lived then — walking to school, not having electricity and the way things were in the 1870s. And on that same token, a lot of the problems kids and people go through today are the same problems that existed in the 1800s. Things like bullying, drug addiction, and the stories are told in a really fun way.

I want to see what happens next

What excites me the most about getting older is that I’m still getting older. The alternative to getting older is just not an option. I’ve reached this incredible phase in my life. I’m at this passage into a very peaceful place. The best part about getting older? I don’t care any more. I want to be healthy and I want to take care of myself but I don’t care that I have lines around my eyes and I don’t care that I’m carrying a little extra weight. I think this is actually pretty great. I want to see what happens next.

Baking a birthday pumpkin pie

One of my favorite fall traditions is baking a birthday pumpkin pie for my husband. My husband’s birthday is in the fall and he doesn’t like cake, so every year he wants a pumpkin pie. He always loves it and he always makes a big fuss that it’s the thing he looks forward to each fall.
