For me, it was more important for me to focus on diet than exercise right after having my babies. Early after giving birth my midwife had a great rule: house arrest for a month after baby was born. I was supposed to take it easy and just bond with my baby, and not move around much at all during the first two weeks. I am a big pro-breast feeder and think a healthy diet should be a main focus for new moms. When you’re feeling up for it and have had enough time to ease out of the just-given-birth stage, then start incorporating safe exercise.
